Heard Every Word, Oil and ground glass on board, 16 x 20 in.
This is a still life of the shoes I wore on my wedding day but it could just as easily be a self portrait. It’s difficult to express the range of emotions a woman goes through on such an auspicious occasion and this painting is the result of that clash.
For me, it’s akin to the still life hunting-themed paintings often made by men throughout art history. I felt both trapped in the moment and defiantly free to conquer my own growing fears of how a woman should behave in society.
